Leadership in a digital world

A good leader has the ability to lead oneself intelligently. Ideally, a leader always acts consciously, shapes the personality and thus contributes to the company and the brand.

Leaders need to lead themselves

Those who act with focus and awareness automatically improve their management – and enhance their quality of life. And it helps not to lose sight of the big picture – a safe strategy against excessive demands, due to digitalization and new requirements that many are confronted with.

The generation that grew up with digital media has now reached the top management positions. Many surveys confirm that this generation can be motivated by three factors in particular: Pleasure in their work, personal development and the sense of purpose of their work.

Uniqueness of each individual

More than ever before, the driving force is not a career at any price. Accordingly, the new managers seek an ideal work situation, above all self-determination, teamwork, personal contacts and immediate feedback from superiors.

Moreover, the principle should recognize the uniqueness of each individual. The new generation is much more heterogeneous than the previous one, as the natural use of everything digital does not produce standardized people.

And where does this come from in comparison to the reduced urge for a career and high salary? The simple reason is that those who are now around 30 have mostly grown up in financial prosperity – sometimes more, sometimes less. They know neither distress nor scarcity. This background does indeed unite this generation.

However, the individual differences still exist – as does the ease with which everyone uses their smartphone. What does that mean? The more the dominance of the digital seems to unify us, the more we long for individuality. No wonder, nothing is more multifaceted than the human being.

The personality resists digitization and remains the focus of attention. This has two consequences: Firstly, appreciation becomes a yield factor. On the other hand, good leaders score points with natural leadership qualities: strong communication skills, genuine interest in their counterpart, reliability, authenticity.

Due to constant change, leaders are subject to continuous adaptation. Only those who continue to learn and develop can remain relevant and successfully fulfill their role as leaders.
